DAY 2 - DAY 3

February 7 ~ 8, 2026
2D1N SHIKI-SHIMA JOURNEY

Embark on a captivating journey through the sacred forests to the vast Pacific Ocean, all bathed in the serene glow of a winter's day in eastern Japan.

  • Start your journey at Kashima Shrine in Ibaraki, a revered site dedicated to the deity Takemikazuchi-no-Ōkami and known for the tradition of Kashima-dachi—prayers for safe travels.

Experience a special prayer ritual and wander through the sacred forest paths, where you may spot deer, considered divine messengers. In the afternoon, explore the charming historic town of Sawara in Chiba.

Stroll along the Ono River, surrounded by well-preserved Edo-era townscapes, including traditional warehouses and townhouses. With insights from a local guide, discover the town’s ties to Inō Tadataka, Japan’s cartographic pioneer, while immersing yourself in its rich history and cultural heritage.

  • Begin your day at Nebukawa Station, perched on a hill overlooking Sagami Bay, where the train halts for a serene sunrise experience. Soak in the golden hues of dawn from the platform or through the panoramic train windows, setting a tranquil tone for the morning.

Arrive at Odawara for breakfast at Hotoku Kaikan Shokurakuan Hotoku, followed by a visit to Hotoku Ninomiya Shrine. This shrine honors Ninomiya Sontoku, an Edo-era reformer celebrated for his contributions to agriculture and rural revitalization.

Admire the iconic statue of Ninomiya as a boy, symbolizing perseverance and learning. Conclude the journey with a visit to the Enoura Observatory, a breathtaking cultural facility by artist Hiroshi Sugimoto, featuring architectural and natural wonders like an optical glass stage and ancient artifacts.

Return to Ueno Station in the evening for a Farewell Party, reflecting on the highlights of this unforgettable adventure with fellow travelers and the train crew.
